The activities below can be completed at any age and in any season. They can take 5 mins…..or as long as you want! If you are a local and get down here frequently then I recommend you do these activities each season/each month and notice what the changes are. Mini Pollinator Survey...

Time of activity: 5-20mins

Biodiversity is the variety of plant and animal life in the world or in a particular habitat -and the more the biodiversity the better!

Scientists who study insects and biodiversity have an important job and in their work they do a lot of watching. For certain research, they will do many many 5-20 min observations of plants over a period of time to see who visits.

Here at The BEE Gardens you can do your own research!

You have a good chance at seeing a few pollinators (see below for pics of some of the most common) because The BEE Gardens are created from healthy soil and no sprays are used—so honeybees, native bees, hoverflies, flies, spiders, caterpillars, moths, butterflies, plant hoppers, ants, weevils, beetles plus more could all be here!

This activity is super easy and is almost like an active meditation in a way as it requires you to be quiet and focussed for a period of time.

So it is time to be a scientist for a bit and see how many creepy crawlies you can find!

Steps

1-find a plant in flower

2-set a timer for 5 mins

3-settle in front of it quietly for 5 mins

4-watch, notice, listen….

5- perhaps try to take some photos?

6-perhaps try to draw what you have seen afterwards?

Tips

—you might find nothing and you might find a lot

—a good day for insects/bees is sunny(not too hot!) with no wind….but you might be surprised on other days!

Good luck!
