With The Heart Gardening Project being a community initiative, we rely on volunteers to help grow the positive change we have already started. To finish and maintain the Melbourne Pollinator Corridor we need all sorts of people with all sorts of skills. People who can help with the maintenance and creation of gardens, admin, web development, sales, marketing etc. are all needed to keep the heart beating in The Heart Gardening Project and connect humans through street gardening. Oh and you can be a keen beginner or keen experienced professional!
Overview of Volunteer Onboarding Process - 6 steps
What YOU need to do:
1- You need to fill out the volunteer form below(by becoming a volunteer you automatically become a member which has it’s own benefits!) and pay the membership fee.
What THGP needs to do:
2- THGP will look over your form
3- THGP will check if your preferences match up with what we need
4- THGP will get in touch with you
What WE (THGP and your good self) need to do:
5- Let the onboarding begin (which will consist of watching a couple of short films and doing a face to face onboarding session)
6- You are ready to help The Heart Gardening Project grow and be even more awesome!
FAQs on Volunteer Form
Why do I need to become member to be a volunteer?
To volunteer you need to be a member first in order to be insured. It is also important to be both a member and volunteer because you need to know what is going on here at THGP and can also be an official part of THGP if you choose (e.g. you can come to the AGM).
Do I need to pay? How much? Why?
Membership is $22 per year for an Individual and $44 for a family or household (including GST).
If you could pay this that would be very much appreciated as it goes towards insurance, supplies, tools, maintenance etc. If you can’t afford the fee please let us know and of course we will help however we can.
What do I need to do?
Please fill out the Volunteer Form below and pay the membership fee.
What happens after I fill out the form?
Please be patient while we process your form. If it takes a couple of weeks or longer we are really sorry- we are pushing many projects forward and will get to your form as soon as we can! In time we are hoping to have this waiting time reduced as more volunteers come on board....so more volunteers can come on board!!
Volunteer Duty of Care
We have a Duty of Care towards you as a volunteer and we take that very seriously. Becoming a member means you are insured as a volunteer through Environment Victoria. Saying this, you also have a Duty of Care to THGP too and need to take proper precautions that you look after your own safety. Also, by becoming a volunteer (and member) you will be agreeing to act in accordance to our values and vision safely with positivity and enthusiasm.
